China is 'hopeful' of securing a trade deal with the US

China imports exports tumble in February Copper price: Chinese concentrate imports hit monthly record

So, we're obviously very happy with that. The USMCA is created to replace the North American Free Trade Agreement - or NAFTA - which President Donald Trump called "the worst trade deal ever made". He declined to say whether Trump would set a new tariff deadline should the talks stall. But the USMCA faces an uphill battle in Congress, and as Steve Mort reports, among some USA farmers as well.

Donald Trump on Friday said he remains optimistic but will not sign a pact unless it is a "very good deal", and a top economic advisor said the U.S. president could walk away from a bad deal. "But we're closer than we've been for a very long time", he told the Journal.

Aimed at assuaging concerns about China's business environment for foreign firms, Beijing sees the law as a tool to attract more foreign investment as its economy slows.

President Donald Trump said he remains optimistic but will not agree to a pact with China unless it is a "very good deal".

"I am confident but. if this isn't a great deal, I won't make a deal", Trump told reporters as he departed the White House to visit tornado-damaged Alabama.

Trump has upended that practice, believing he is best positioned to secure concessions and complete agreements in direct talks with his foreign counterparts.

"We have made substantial progress on some important issues".

It has been revealed that Manchester City are being investigated for possibly breaching Financial Fair Play regulations. Some clubs did not accept it. "Next season we won't be having this conversation and we will be clear".

For some observers this will be enough to confirm that the world's second-largest economy is struggling under the weight of the trade dispute with the United States and generally softer global growth. While he has dispatched envoys to China, led by Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin, to strike a trade pact, he's also stated that a final accord will only be reached through direct talks between himself and Xi.

Julian Evans-Pritchard, a China economist at Capital Economics, said that if the USA and China "finalize a trade deal soon, the outlook for exports remains gloomy", CNN reported.

The Trump administration has extended a March 2 deadline for resolving the trade impasse ahead of an expected meeting between Mr Trump and Mr Xi in Florida at the end of the month.

"Any enforcement mechanism must be two-way, fair and equal", he said.

Trump imposed tariff hikes of up to 25 per cent on Dollars 250 billion of Chinese goods.

Washington and Beijing previous year exchanged punitive tariffs on more than $360 billion in two-way trade but have recently indicated they are close to coming to terms.

"We've got to be realistic that this is a one-party authoritarian system".
