Bangladesh cricket team escapes unscathed; shooter is still active, claim reports

Numerous people were killed at two mosques amid an active shooter situation in Christchurch, New Zealand in an incident that unfolded starting at 1:40 p.m. on Friday, police said.

"I don't they're in a mental state to play cricket at all".

The players have been told to stay indoors and a planned meeting at the team hotel has been canceled.

Bangladesh Cricket Board spokesman Jalal Yunus said most of the team were bussed to the mosque and were about to go inside when the incident happened.

He said he then heard numerous shots and that people subsequently ran from the mosque.

"I don't know how many (gunshots) there were".

ESPN cricket reporter Mohammad Isam tweeted that a team from Bangladesh "escaped from a mosque near Hagley Park where there were active shooters".

It is understood members of the touring Bangladesh cricket team were in the mosque when the shooting occurred but they are believed to be safe. Gunfire was heard coming from the direction of the mosque and several people were seen on the ground outside the building, One News reported.
