Lakers Pull Out Of Anthony Davis Trade Talks Amid ‘Outrageous’ Requests

Moore’s NBA Trade Deadline Primer: What I’m Hearing on Anthony Davis, Grizzlies, More Report: Miami Heat Not on Anthony Davis’ List of Preferred Trade Destinations

According to Brad Turner, the Lakers pulled out of trade negotiations amid the outrageous asking price that the Pelicans had for Davis.

According to ESPN's Ramona Shelburne, the Lakers have felt conversations with New Orleans have been one-sided and they are growing increasingly pessimistic about the Pelicans willingness to do a deal with them. Lakers willing to give Pelicans cap relief for Anthony Davis by taking Solomon Hill for Lonzo Ball, Kyle Kuzma, Ingram, Rondo, Lance Stephenson, Beasley, 2 1st round picks.

Davis deemed the deal worthy of a double tap on instagram, but apparently it wasn't enough for the Pels.

The Lakers spoke with the Pelicans on at least two occasions Monday in an attempt to acquire Davis before Thursday's trade deadline.

The Pelicans haven't countered the Lakers' offers but do have expectations that [Magic] Johnson will overwhelm them with young players and a historic haul of draft picks.

Prosecutors also showed interest in whether any foreigners illegally donated to the committee, the New York Times reported . Attorney's Office in Manhattan, which issued the subpoena, declined to comment.

The report included a note that the Pelicans may be hoping if Davis isn't traded by the deadline, he'll take back his request and decide to play for New Orleans. That is if Davis coming wouldn't turn Leonard, who is almost impossible to get a read on, off from wanting to come there.

"But that's not going to happen", the Times source said.

Rich Paul, Davis's agent and James' agent, revealed the Davis trade demand a week ago, leading to a $50,000 fine for Davis from the National Basketball Association but forcing the Pelicans' hand, lest he play out his contract next year and leave without any compensation.

The Pelicans' demands have reportedly gotten way too high for the Lakers. The Pelicans need to wait until they can get a player with that clear All-NBA ceiling before pulling the trigger. And even if they did want to make a move, what is their best offer?

So if the Lakers are not willing to add anything else, what is their final offer? But not only is Rich Paul - the agent of LeBron James who also represents Anthony Davis - not hiding his tracks at all with the number of media reports being leaked, he went so far as to go on record on Monday with ESPN, prompting a $50,000 fine for Davis. Davis will garner a super-max contract upward of $240 million whenever he lands.
