Ivanka Trump Hits Back At Hoovering Lookalike Artwork

Ivanka Trump Responds to Art Exhibit That Encourages Viewers to Throw Crumbs for Her to Vacuum Ivanka Trump fires back at DC art exhibit showing look-alike vacuuming crumbs

It was perhaps to be expected that Jennifer Rubell's new piece Ivanka Vacuuming, which is now being staged in Washington, D.C., would cause some sort of controversy, given that it invites audience members to throw crumbs at a pink rug that is being vacuumed by a performer resembling President Donald Trump's eldest daughter.

Artist Jennifer Rubell's Ivanka Vacuuming installation at the Flashpoint Gallery features a blond model - a dead ringer for President Trump's daughter - in Stepford Wives mode as she cheerfully smiles while vacuuming up crumbs flung at her by gallery-goers. "I choose the latter", in a tweet.

"(She is) a figure whose public persona incorporates an nearly comically wide range of feminine identities - daughter, wife, mother, sister, model, working woman, blonde".

What's the artist's interpretation? She insists she was exploring the "relationship between the viewer and the character's femininity". However, Ivanka strongly criticized the exhibit.

Ivanka Vacuuming is on view until February 17.

Admission to the exhibit is free, and those who can not view it in person are invited to view it via a livestream between 6-8 p.m. anytime between February 1-17.

Clarkson is directing the pilot of the prequel from Kingsman: The Secret Service and Kick-Ass writer Jane Goldman . Weiss, the new season is comprised of only six, longer episodes instead of the traditional eight.

Ivanka's brother Donald Trump Jr. also hit out at the art saying, "Sad, but not surprising to watch self professed "feminists" launching sexist attacks against @IvankaTrump".

The piece has already prompted criticism from Trump supporters, with conservative outlet the Federalist accusing it of "oversexualizing Ivanka's body and ignoring her hard work". That is the icky truth at the centre of the work. "It's amusing, it's pleasurable, it makes us feel powerful, and we want to do it more", Rubell noted.

"Also, we know she'll keep vacuuming whether we do it or not, so it's not really our fault, right?" she added.

"I don't think it would have gone over quite so well with the regressive left but c'est la vie we're used to the hypocrisy on that side of the aisle." .

Noting that Trump was responding not to the piece itself, or even to a livestream of the performance available on CulturalDC's website, but to an article published about the work, Rubell said that Trump's tweet was "indirect", adding, "The world has gotten fully meta". It calls the act of throwing bread crumbs onto the carpet for her to vacuum "surprisingly pleasurable".
