Apple apologizes for FaceTime bug, assures fix by next week

With the bug, a FaceTime group-chat user calling another Apple device could hear audio - even if the receiver didn't accept the call.

Apple informed CNN Business in an announcement it recognized a fix for the difficulty and planned to roll out a software program replace later this the week.

The Cupertino, California-headquartered tech giant said a fix for the bug which will re-enable the group FaceTime feature will be available to users next week, CNBC reported on Friday.

Apple has officially apologised to all iPad and iPhone users over the massive security flaw that affected the Group FaceTime calls.

Group FaceTime calling was a key feature in last fall's iOS 12 software update, which comes with the latest iPhones and iPads.

Now the company has officially apologized for the FaceTime flaw and promised a fix which will be released by next week.

The state of New York is now probing Apple's failure to warn consumers about the bug, New York Governor Andrew Cuomo said on Wednesday.

His mother, Michele Thompson, tried to alert Apple to the defect.

"You can swipe up and add another person, so I added another friend of mine, Diego, to see if he also wanted to play, " he said.

The bug requires you to perform a few actions while the phone is ringing, so if the person on the other end picks up quickly, they might not be affected. His mother, Michele Thompson, tweeted about her son's discovery for days before the company and media outlets picked up on it. She received a response through e-mail about what steps she should take, but received no indication from Apple that her concerns were being looked at.
