US President Donald Trump has threatened to cut off Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) aid to California in the wake of devastating wildfires there, saying that the state first needs to "get their act together".

The tweet states that the president has ordered FEMA to stop sending money "unless they get their act together", which the president calls "unlikely". "I would under no circumstances say that Cal Fire and the state of California are neglecting this", he said, referring to the state fire agency.

"Billions of dollars are sent to the State of California for Forest fires that, with proper Forest Management, would never happen, ' the president tweeted Wednesday morning, after initially misspelling it 'Forrest" in an earlier tweet. Eventually, #ForrestTrump even started trending. "The people of CA - folks in Paradise", a community that was among the hardest hit by the Camp Fire previous year, "should not be victims to partisan bickering".

On Tuesday, the governors of California, Oregon and Washington asked federal agencies to "double" their investment in forest management in a letter to the White House.
