According to ABC 13, Thomas made history back in 2015 after becoming the first female to be a full-time official for the NFL.

Thomas was the down judge in Sunday's divisional round game between the New England Patriots and Los Angeles Chargers. She's spent the last two seasons as a down judge, before previously working as a line judge. She had already become the first woman to officiate a major college football game, the first to officiate in a Big Ten Conference stadium, and the first to officiate a bowl game.

The mother of three boys, she was part of the NFL's officiating development program in 2013 and 2014 and had worked at mini-camps, training camps and exhibition games before getting hired full-time in 2015.

Following this week's games, the remaining teams will go on to play the conference championships before the two remaining teams will meet at Super Bowl LIII at Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta, Georgia, on February 3, 2019.

Making history is nothing new for Thomas. But she stressed that her focus was on "being the best official I can be".

She said she was honored to be considered a "trailblazer" for female officials.

"I've just been doing this truly because I love it", she said.

Hopefully, Thomas and Valentini will be the trailblazers for more future female National Football League officials.
