Report Warns of N. Korea Nuclear Threat Ahead of Trump-Kim Summit

Marco Rubio of Florida have proposed legislation that would create an Office of Critical Technologies and Security at the White House, which would coordinate efforts by all departments of the US government to respond effectively to threats posed by China and others.

Gina Haspel, director of the Central Intelligence Agency (CIA), and Daniel Coats, director of National Intelligence, testify on worldwide threats during a Senate hearing on Capitol Hill, on January 29. They described an array of economic, military and intelligence threats, from highly organised efforts by China to scattered disruptions by terrorists, hacktivists and transnational criminals. He said: 'No more Rockets or M's being fired over Japan or anywhere else and, most importantly, no Nuclear Testing.

Both countries have sophisticated "cyber espionage" capabilities, which they may try to use to influence the 2020 U.S. presidential election.

"We now assess that North Korea will seek to retain its WMD capabilities and is unlikely to completely give up its nuclear weapons and production capabilities because its leaders ultimately view nuclear weapons as critical to regime survival", Dan Coats, the director of national intelligence, told a Senate hearing, referring to weapons of mass destruction.

America's national intelligence chief says North Korea is unlikely to give up all of its nuclear weapons.

A landmark first summit between Trump and Kim in Singapore in June produced a promise by Kim to work toward the complete denuclearization of the divided Korean Peninsula.

Han told Reuters that he had no information on a possible upcoming second summit between Kim and Trump.

Coats also refuted Trump's statement that ISIS has been defeated.

Although their assessment asserted that high crime rates and weak job markets in Central America "will spur additional USA -bound migrants", it spent no time on the crisis on the border with Mexico for which Mr. Trump has considered declaring a national emergency.

In their annual report on security challenges to the country, the country's top spies also challenged Trump's claim that Tehran is actively seeking nuclear weapons, the justification Trump gave for withdrawing previous year from a multilateral treaty on Iran.

The intelligence agencies said Iran continues to work with other parties to the nuclear deal it reached with the USA and other Western nations. Without mentioning prospects for a peace deal, which appear to have improved only in recent days, the report said, "neither the Afghan government nor the Taliban will be able to gain a strategic military advantage in the Afghan war in the coming year" if the USA maintains its current levels of support. Ron Wyden, a Democrat, asked whether Trump's not releasing records of his discussions with Russian President Vladimir Putin put USA intelligence agencies at a disadvantage.

The DNI did express concern at Iran's traditional military capability, as well as its ongoing ballistic missile program and ambitions in Syria, but that didn't quite rise to the level of Trump's rhetoric at the United Nations last September, when he accused Tehran of sowing "chaos, death, and destruction" across the Middle East. And China and Russian Federation are working together as never before in recent history.

"The capabilities and threat that existed a year ago are still there", said Lt. Gen. Robert Ashley, the director of the Defence Intelligence Agency.

He said nearly all the economic espionage cases in the FBI's 56 field offices "lead back to China".

The report also said the Islamic State group "remains a terrorist and insurgent threat" inside Iraq.

Tuesday's testimony came just a day after the United States announced criminal charges against China's Huawei Technologies, escalating a fight with the world's biggest telecommunications equipment maker and coming days before trade talks between Washington and Beijing.

The intelligence report warned about Russian Federation.

Coats declined to respond when Sen.

In addition to messing with elections, the United States intel boss said that he expects hostile nations to continue cyberattacks against the U.S., with each country choosing a different tactic based on its strengths and needs.
