With an impressively large roster that is only going to grow throughout the year and a stellar single-player mode, it's no wonder why so many fans are enjoying every little bit that the new fighter has to offer on their Nintendo Switch.

Currently, components of Nintendo Switch are stored at the upstream supply chain, waiting to be assembled and shipped with Nintendo's instruction, the sources said.

If the Switch and Xbox One continue to sell at the rates VGChartz estimates they did in 2018, the Switch will surpass lifetime sales of the Xbox One in 2020, despite having launched more than three years after Microsoft's current console. The PS4 and Xbox One also saw sales growth year over year, as did the "plug-and-play" devices sector (including the recently launched PlayStation Classic). According to Kotaku, that puts first-month physical sales for Ultimate at over 4.5 million units.

The December sales success for the Switch seems to be driven largely by one particular piece of software: Super Smash Bros. The strength of the Switch overall also boosted the sales of its major games, sending 2017 games Mario Kart 8, Breath of the Wild, and Super Mario Odyssey into 2018's top 20. Ultimate, was only fifth in the list, beaten by Red Dead Redemption 2, Call of Duty: Black Ops 4, National Basketball Association 2K19, and Madden NFL 19, in that order. SSBU, however, was the best selling game last December, which also helped boost Switch console sales, and beat Sony's Spider-Man when it came to console exclusives.

Nintendo's got a victor on their hands this time, folks! Intentionally or not, Nintendo designed the Switch console and its gaming ecosystem to appeal to all kinds of people.

This is not to say that Nintendo won't keep trying to swim into that blue ocean again for Switch. In 2018, Nintendo made more money on console hardware than any company had since Sony took 2015 with the PS4.

Few 3DS titles took advantage of the horribly-named "New 3DS" upgraded hardware, with Xenoblade Chronicles 3D being the most notable game to hit the system.
