An unlikely hero has rescued a barefoot baby walking alone on a footpath in the freezing cold.

She was driving her route on the morning of December 22 when she spotted the child, who was barefoot and wearing a onesie and diaper.

She then rushes back to the vehicle, where some passengers look on.

Ivic was presented Thursday with an award by county officials for her act of kindness.

Irena Ivic was driving on a freeway overpass when she spotted a barefoot baby, Milwaukee County Transit System spokesman Matt Sliker said. She carried the baby to the bus, where passengers gathered in disbelief.

In the video, Ivic, a mother of two, can be heard saying, "I'm shaken".

Megyn Kelly exits NBC after controversial tenure
On Thursday, she said "you will definitely see me back on" when approached by celebrity photographers in New York City. Both Kelly's morning show and Sunday evening news program struggled to find viewers.

Another passenger brought her jacket up to the front of the bus to help the boy warm up. "She did the right thing", he said of the five-year veteran with the service. Authorities eventually reunited the baby with its father. "I used to be a teacher and I have children of my own, so I'm so happy I was able to help this sweet, innocent baby", Ivic said.

Police say the child had been left outside by his mother who may have been suffering from a mental health crisis.

The boy Ivic rescued "is the ninth lost or missing child found by MCTS Drivers in recent years", the release states.

After a period of time, emergency officials are seen arriving before they take the child, fast asleep in the driver's arms, with them.

Irena Ivic is a driver for the Milwaukee County Transit System.
