On Friday, workers with the National Air Traffic Controllers Association were among the thousands of USA federal workers who awoke to find that they had not received a paycheck amid the government shutdown.

Air traffic controllers in Vancouver, Edmonton, Toronto, and Moncton along with many other Canadian cities, purchased pizza for their American counterparts in places like Seattle, Anchorage, Alaska, Utah, New York, and Minneapolis.

He said that as of Sunday afternoon, Nav Canada employees from all of Canada's seven control centres and many of its towers have bought lunch for their USA counterparts.

He added: 'Air traffic control is a very stressful job.

Air traffic controllers in Norfolk say they just recently received a pay stub of zero dollars and although employees say right now they're being hit pretty hard in their pockets, eventually they might not be the only ones affected.

At present, there are an estimated 14,000 air traffic controllers now keeping USA skies as accident-free as humanly possible while receiving no pay.

He posted on Reddit an image of a sign that had been hung at the New York Air Traffic Control Center in Ronkonkoma, N.Y., that said 32 pizzas had been ordered by Canadians. "They are in the middle of the government shutdown and as of yesterday did not receive their pay cheques".

So, employees of the Canadian Air Traffic Control Association wanted to do something to cheer up their US eqivalents.

NATCA has filed a lawsuit against the Trump administration for failing to pay the controllers amid the government shutdown, according to The Hill.

A collection started by employees had blossomed into an industry-wide show of solidarity, the Canadian Air Traffic Control Association told the BBC.

The National Air Traffic Controllers Association, which represents America's 22,790 air-traffic controllers, is suing the federal government.

Around a quarter of the federal government is out of operation due to the shutdown.

The effort comes as the government shutdown enters history-making territory as the longest shutdown in USA history, with tens of thousands of airport security screeners among those forced to work without pay, prompting some to call in sick and contributing to longer lines at some airports.

Air-traffic controllers earn a median of $124,540 a year.
