This particular bug allows a caller to hear audio and see the camera feed from their recipients even though they didn't pick up the call. Bloomberg reports that users need to launch a conference call, input their phone number and then add the number of an additional person.

This means people can listen in on conversations without the other person having any idea this is happening. While the phone is still ringing, you'll be able to hear audio from the recipient's phone, even though they haven't accepted the call.

Now that FaceTime is disabled, callers will be unable to utilize this bug to listen and watch you without your permission through FaceTime.

Apple reckons it'll push out a software fix for this privacy gaffe later this week. The flaw was discussed on social media and picked up by website 9to5Mac.com.

Apple announced the feature last summer, but then removed it from early test versions of its iOS 12 operating system.

Winter Storm Watch for metro Atlanta, north Georgia
Snow will accumulate Sunday and cold temperatures later in the week will impact driving, schools and schedules. Wind will be an issue through the day, with gusts up to 30 miles per hour possible across the Front Range.

Given that the bug doesn't seem to work with my iPhone XS Max running the iOS 12.2 beta, it's likely that Apple was aware of the issue.

Until Apple releases its software update, it appears that the best way for iPhone users to protect their privacy is to disable FaceTime in the phone's settings.

Apple added multi-person FaceTime calling at the end of a year ago via a software update that was, in part, created to address previous software bugs.

When 9to5Mac first reported on the bug, they were only able to get the microphone snooping working.
