The decision of the court in Munich on 20 December found that Apple had violated patents on energy-saving technologies.

Apple was sued by Qualcomm for patent infringment, with a court in Germany recently ruling that the company is to stop selling certain models - iPhone 7 and 8.

"Apple was ordered to cease the sale, offer for sale and importation for sale of all infringing iPhones in Germany", Qualcomm said in a statement.

While Apple said it would appeal the decision, it claimed it would continue to sell the infringing iPhones via third-party retailers.

Although the ruling was make a couple of weeks ago, the bond itself makes the ban official, allowing the court to pay Apple for any damages incurred should it be able to successfully appeal against the ruling.

Munich regional court and Apple were not immediately available for comment.

The German case is Qualcomm's third real exertion to anchor a prohibition on Apple's lucrative iPhones over patent encroachment charges after comparable moves in the United States and China, and is a piece of a worldwide patent spat between the two organizations.

Previously, it was noted that Apple's iPhone 7 and 8 models would not be sold in 15 retail locations in Germany. As of now, the iPhone 7 and 8, as well as the iPhone 7 Plus and 8 Plus, are no longer for sale at official Apple storefronts, including the German version of Apple.com.

Apple had said it was appealing the decision.

German reseller Gravis said it was still selling the iPhone 7 and 8 models at its stores as well as online. However, the situation erupted in 2017 after Apple filed a suit against Qualcomm which alleged the latter was operating an illegal business model by way of "double-dipping" on licensing fees.

Under German law, judgements become enforceable once the victor of the patent dispute posts bonds covering potential damages incurred by the losing party, in case the judgment is overturned or amended on appeal.

Qualcomm has said those software updates were insufficient and that Apple must still withdraw its phones.
