According to The Information, there are reports that Amazon plans to start its own game streaming service to take google and Microsoft on.

The e-commerce giant is looking to build an online gaming service.

However, Amazon is not the first company to enter the field of streaming video games.

Through its Twitch subsidiary, the rapidly growing live video streaming service that focuses on video games, Amazon also oversees a thriving community of passionate gamers, some of whom are enjoying mainstream success and elevated cultural cache.

Suffice it to say that video game streaming is likely the next step in gaming, and with as huge a company as Amazon joining the ranks, expect the industry to hit full throttle.

Nintendo, Sony, Microsoft, Electronic Arts, Google, and Nvidia are all getting into the game streaming business with an increased sense of urgency and Amazon has a lot going for it.

The plans for Amazon's service are in the early stages, with sources saying to The Information that the service isn't expected to arrive until 2020. Rather, Amazon can use computing resources from its powerful cloud servers to run games.

As Netflix did with TV shows and movies, and Spotify did with music, a gaming platform could offer customers a wider universe of content through a monthly subscription, while giving game studios a steady revenue stream and a broader pool of potential customers. With the introduction of such game-streaming services, we may finally able to bid adieu those ultra-expensive gaming consoles.

An increasing number of companies are trying their hand at game streaming services, which remains a niche sector but could one day be huge.

Amazon has yet to officially confirm the reports. It's unknown if it will be a part of Amazon Prime or priced as a separate platform.

Suggesting that not only are they diving into the world of cloud gaming, but they could also be planning to develop their own games in the future.
