The study published by Nature Journal on Tuesday says Queensland researchers have created a simple test which uses a colour-changing fluid to confirm the presence of cancerous cells anywhere in the body.

Scientists are still working on developing this wonder-test, but once their work is completed, the world would be able to have a different approach to the detection of cancer.

The research team disclosed that the test would detect about 90 in 100 cases of cancer. This will serve as the initial test for the presence of cancer, and the doctors will conduct more focused studies.

At this stage, the test indicates only whether someone has cancer, but can not tell the type of cancer they have or how advanced it is.

"This is a huge discovery that no-one has grasped before", said Laura Carrascosa, a researcher at the University of Queensland.

A "universal fingerprint" has been found in the DNA of common cancers that could one day enable a diagnosis to be made with a simple ten-minute blood test.

Meanwhile, as reported by the CNN, researchers at the John Hopkins University in the United States, also had announced earlier this year that they have developed CancerSEEK - a blood test that screen for 8 forms of common cancer types.

These distinct patterns of molecules control which genes are turned on and off at any given time and "decorate the DNA". The methyl groups are spread all over the genome but the genomes of cancer cells are not just completely barren but they also only feature the methyl clusters at specific locations. In cancer cells, however, this particular pattern is being hijacked, and only the genes that help cancer grows are switched on.

"Using. a high-resolution microscope, we saw that cancerous DNA fragments folded into three-dimensional structures in water". But if the technique is further developed, perhaps the most immediate potential application would be monitoring existing cancer patients for disease recurrence, she said.

Their test involves extracting DNA from a tissue sample, mixing it with water, adding gold nanoparticles and then watching for a reaction.

"We designed a simple test using gold nanoparticles that instantly change color to determine if the 3D nanostructures of cancer DNA are present".

For the test to produce accurate results, the DNA must be pure.

It's also attractive "as a very accessible and cheap technology that does not require complicated lab-based equipment like DNA sequencing", he said.

The test, led by Matt Trau, has been run on 200 human cancer samples and healthy DNA already, making it a reliable marker for cancer universally and an accessible technology, replacing the complicated lab-based equipment like DNA sequencing.
