An investigation has been launched by national French prosecutors into allegations of match fixing involving Paris Saint-Germain's 6-1 Champions League win over Red Star Belgrade.

L'Equipe's report states that UEFA alerted PNF days before the two teams met at Parc des Princes on October 3.

It is claimed an informant tipped Uefa off that a Red Star official, working with accomplices, would bet just under €5 million (about £4.4 million) on the Serbs losing by five goals across multiple websites to try not to raise suspicion.

Red Star Belgrade have responded with the "highest anger and abomination" to a report of match-fixing by the club in their most recent Champions League match with Paris Saint-Germain.

PSG went on to beat their Serbian opponents 6-1 at the Parc des Princes, with Neymar hitting a hat-trick alongside goals from Edinson Cavani, Angel Di Maria and Kylian Mbappe.

"The statements in this article seriously undermine our image and the club's reputation", the club said.

"On this occasion, PSG reiterates our attachment to fundamental sporting principles, the integrity of competitions & consequently refuses any form of practice that could call that integrity into question".

"UEFA never comments on potential, or the existence of, investigations into alleged match-fixing as to not compromise the process of such investigations", they said in a statement.
