Woodward: Anonymous op-ed ‘too vague’ for me Woodward: Anonymous op-ed ‘too vague’ for me

The president and the White House reacted with anger to the Times opinion piece, written by a person - identified by the paper as a senior Trump administration official - who asserted that the president's worst impulses have been frequently foiled by his own staff. Vice President Mike Pence's office said it was "above such amateur acts".

"I'm not sure it matters", Conway said. "This means, this whole time, we've been dealing with the watered-down version of Trump?" he said.

Trump again addressed the "failing" New York Times and the author of the infamous op-ed.

Trump described the writer of the opinion piece as someone "probably who is failing and probably here for all the wrong reasons". "To the writer of the op-ed - you are not protecting this country, you are sabotaging it with your cowardly actions", she said.

It was noteworthy, though, that much of the Trump administration's response focused on the New York Times and the media - and not the substance of the op-ed.

On the defensive over damning accounts of the inner workings of his administration, Donald Trump set out on Friday (Sep 7) to discredit the testimony that cast doubt on his ability to lead the United States.

Ever since the explosive op-ed was posted, officials inside the West Wing have been speculating about who the author could be - and were on edge, pointing fingers at colleagues. "Family members of the 28,000 people there, '" Woodward said.

Pakistan removes minority Ahmadi from economic council
Succumbing to pressure from the hardliners, the Pakistan government on Friday withdrew the nomination of Mian from the EAC. Rasul wished the EAC and the government luck and said that he was willing to offer "non-partisan, evidence-based advice".

The demand came shortly after Trump published a one-word message on Twitter: "TREASON?"

The author also wrote that the "root of the problem is the President's amorality" and assails Trump's "reckless decisions", "erratic behaviour" and what the official describes as the President's "impetuous, adversarial, petty and ineffective" leadership style.

The op-ed underscored just how little confidence some administration officials and Republicans in Congress have in Trump's ability to handle the presidency.

Over on "The Daily Show", the op-ed brought about a shocking revelation for Trevor Noah. He criticized the media for what he said were its efforts to "undermine this administration".

Pompeo, who is visiting New Delhi, told reporters on Thursday: "It's not mine" after fevered speculation over who wrote the article seized Washington.

While Woodward's is not the first unflattering investigation into Trump's White House, it carries particular weight coming from the man who together with Carl Bernstein authored the Watergate expose that brought down former President Richard Nixon. Every day since taking office, he has fulfilled the promises he made.
