Breaking the ice in ties with Pakistan, India on Thursday agreed for a meeting between Foreign Ministers of the two countries in NY later this month but rejected the request for the holding of a South Asian Association for Regional Cooperation (SAARC) summit in Islamabad, holding that terror and talks can not go together.

The foreign ministers of the arch-rivals - Shah Mahmood Qureshi and India's Sushma Swaraj - will hold a rare meeting on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly underway in NY, officials in New Delhi and Islamabad said Thursday.

Kumar further said that this is the real face of Pakistan's newly elected PM and he had revealed it in the first few months in the office.

He said that the Pakistan army, its spy agency ISI and Kashmir-based separatists backed by them appear to be working to vitiate the atmosphere.

Kumar said India's decision to agree to Pakistan's proposal for the meeting was in response to the spirit reflected in separate letters from Khan and Qureshi.

Bobi Wine reaches home to huge celebration
The 36-year-old Ssentamu says he is fighting for freedom from oppression and wants Museveni, in power since 1986, to retire. Social media users accused the government of taking draconian methods to keep citizens and opposition politicians at bay.

Perhaps the government realised much too late that it was going to celebrate the second anniversary of the "surgical strikes" against Pakistan on 29 September, three days after the two foreign ministers met in NY - perhaps the messaging to the world community would have been contradictory. "We are ready for talks with India".

"I can confirm that on the request of the Pakistani side, a meeting between the external affairs minister and the Pakistani foreign minister will take place on the sidelines of the UNGA at a mutually convenient date and time", Kumar had said, stressing that the planned meeting should not be misconstrued as a dialogue. Ms Swaraj may leave for NY at the end of September.

Prime Minister Imran Khan had written to his Indian counterpart Narendra Modi calling for a resumption of talks between the nuclear-armed foes. In view of the changed situation, there will be no meeting between the foreign ministers of India and Pakistan in NY. Qureshi was quoted by Dawn as saying that it seems that "India has priorities other than dialogue, adding there is a group in the New Delhi that doesn't want talks to take place". It said such talks would be futile to resolve broad range of issues. "Kashmir dispute remains the cardinal issue among these, which also includes the issue of Sir Creek and Siachen as well as people to people contacts, trade and prisoners", he added.

However, the MEA spokesperson said India's position on joining the SAARC summit in Islamabad remained unchanged. India also claimed it had carried a "surgical strike" to avenge the Uri attack. We have also conveyed our position to the worldwide community.
