The National Weather Service says the system will continue to weaken in the coming days as it moves westward.

Emergency Management officials are still warning Hawaii Island residents to be aware of possible high wind, flooding rain, and high surf.

A Category Four storm on the Saffir Simpson scale is capable of doing widespread major structural and infrastructure damage; it can easily tear off roofing, shatter windows, uproot palm trees and turn them into projectiles that can kill people.

Hurricane-force winds extend outward up to 35 miles from the storm's center and tropical-storm-force winds extend outward up to 90 miles.

Surf along east facing shores is already building and will peak later today and tonight, at 12-15 feet for the Big Island and 6-10 feet for Maui County.

"There will also be an increase in surf over the rest of the Hawaiian Islands through Friday".
