For the second straight year, Aurora St. Luke's Medical Center in Milwaukee has been named the top hospital in Southeastern Wisconsin by U.S. News & World Report.

U.S. News also ranks UCHealth's hospitals in northern Colorado, Poudre Valley Hospital and Medical Center of the Rockies, among the top 10 hospitals in Colorado.

Emory University Hospital ranked either nationally or was considered high performing in the following specialties: Cancer, Gastroenterology & GI Surgery, Geriatrics, Nephrology, Neurology & Neurosurgery, Ophthalmology, Orthopaedics, Pulmonology and Urology.

In contrast, Chandler Hospital's various national rankings include diabetes and endocrinology (33rd); ear, nose and throat (45th); and orthopedics (45th).

The publication also recognizes the medical center as high performing in six common adult procedures and conditions ratings assessed in the survey, including heart failure, colon cancer surgery, and hip and knee replacement.

The rankings, available at www.usnews.com/best-hospitals, will appear in the U.S. News "Best Hospitals 2018" guidebook (ISBN 978-1-931469-678), available in August from the U.S. News Store. The hospitals are also ranked #1 in the Philadelphia metro area. In rankings by state and metro area, U.S. News recognized hospitals as High Performing across multiple areas of care. The 29th annual rankings are created to assist patients and their doctors in making informed decisions about where to receive care. UCH is also ranked among the nation's best in 11 specialties including No. 1 in pulmonology. They looked at teaching hospitals, hospitals affiliated with a medical school, hospitals with at least 200 beds or those with at least 100 beds that treated patients in at least four of eight specialties that U.S. News deemed significant.

UC Davis chief medical officer J. Douglas Kirk said: "We're extremely pleased that we have maintained our high stature with U.S. News & World Report".

Florida Hospital Waterman ranked third, similar to past year. Here are the hospitals, working up from No. 20.

Of those, nine hospitals are distinguished as Best Regional Hospitals and two - Advocate Children's and Advocate Good Samaritan - rank nationally.

The big mover on the state list was U of C Medical Center, which rose in IL from eighth.

These rankings are based on critical health elements, including patient survival and safety, hospital reputation, and care-related factors.

"Rankings certainly aren't why health care providers do what they do every day, but I would say that they provide further validation of how hard we are working to put patients and their families first", MUSC's CEO Patrick Cawley said in a news release.
