Zinedine Zidane allegedly wants to replace Jose Mourinho as Manchester United manager in 2019.

United did win their opening Premier League fixture 2-1 against Leicester City on Friday evening but Mourinho has already made clear his belief he doesn't have the squad to challenge reigning champions Manchester City.

Mourinho's relationship with Shaw has been called into question on a number of occasions in the past, with the Portuguese boss publicly criticising the full-back on numerous occasions.

Mourinho is entering his third season in the Old Trafford hotseat but the campaign follows a tumultuous pre-season in which the manager regularly complained about missing out on transfer targets.

The French legend also won La Liga with Madrid in 2017, as well as two Club World Cup trophies during his two-and-a-half years as first-team manager at the Bernabeu.

Zidane, 46, turned his hand to coaching in 2014 with Real Madrid's Castilla side, and was promoted in January 2016 following Rafael Benitez's exit. According to 'L'Equipe', the Premier League is what interests him the most.

Mourinho is under increased pressure to deliver success to United after failing to win a trophy at Old Trafford last season.

Tottenham's Toby Alderweireld and Bayern Munich's Jerome Boateng were both wanted by Mourinho, but United's executive vice-chairman Ed Woodward was unable to strike a deal for either player.

The news may please United fans, and would surely leave Paul Pogba and Anthony Martial feeling optimistic - and not just due to their seemingly frayed relationships with Mourinho.
