Australian golfer Jarrod Lyle has died of cancer aged 36.
In 2017 the leukaemia returned for a third time, and last week he made the heartbreaking announcement that he was ending treatment and entering palliative care.
A GoFundMe page created to support Lyle's wife, Bri, and their two daughters, Lusi and Jemma, had raised $79,300 of its $200,000 goal as of Wednesday afternoon.
Lyle had suffered a second recurrence of his cancer previous year, after one in 2012, and while he underwent a bone marrow transplant procedure in December, he could not return this time to competitive golf, as he had done before.
The death of Lyle, a victor of two professional tournaments, had left the PGA Tour "heartbroken", the tour's commissioner Jay Monahan said.
Lyle, who played on the PGA Tour during five seasons over 10 years, suffered a third recurrence of acute myeloid leukemia on December 6.
"It breaks my heart to tell everyone that Jarrod is no longer with us", she said. "He passed away peacefully at 8.20 p.m. last night having spent his final week among his family and close friends".
She said Lyle asked for her to deliver a message: "Thanks for your support, it meant the world".

Lyle had battled leukemia on and off for much of his adult life. "My time was short, but if I've helped people think and act on behalf of those families who suffer through cancer, hopefully it wasn't wasted", he said.
Australian golf writer Ben Everill described Lyle as "what Australians call a larrikin".
"I feel like I'm the luckiest golfer going around", Lyle could be heard saying in the recording.
He had a bone marrow transplant previous year but the illness returned and he chose to halt all treatment last week.
South African star Ernie Els said "the world has lost a good man" and Australian golfer Greg Chalmers was devastated. There will be a public memorial service at The Sands in Torquay on Thursday, September 27.
It was while he was at home that a relapse of the leukaemia was diagnosed, causing golf to go on hold for more debilitating treatment until he was again declared to be in remission, making his comeback to the game in the 2013 Australian Masters at Royal Melbourne.
