Police in the eastern Canadian city of Fredericton, New Brunswick say at least four people have been killed after a shooting.

The police asked people to lock their doors and avoid the area, confirming there had been 'multiple fatalities'.

Police tweeted at about 8:30 a.m. asking the public to "Please continue to avoid the area of Brookside Drive between Main and Ring Road".

Police are at the scene and the incident is ongoing. Later, police confirmed four people had been killed in the incident.
