United Kingdom animal shelter overrun with drunk seagulls

Anna Jefferson | 09 July, 2018, 12:29

SEAGULLS have been found staggering along Britain's beaches - because they have drunk so much alcohol.

Inspector Jo Daniel says "At first, the birds look like they have botulism (an illness caused by bacteria) but then, after vomiting, most seem to recover".

David Couper, an RSPCA vet who has treated a number of gulls at the charity's West Hatch centre in Taunton, Somerset, said: "Sadly a few of the birds have died but a lot of them have made good recoveries and have been released after a few days in our care". The animal welfare society believes that the birds have been drinking leftovers from a local brewery or alcohol producer. RSPCA have had dozens of such cases from the south coast.

Following the incident, RSPCA is urging local breweries and distilleries to ensure the waste produce does not get into the system of animals and birds.

They struggle to stand or walk straight and appear disoriented.

Justin Bieber 'engaged to Hailey Baldwin', US media say
Another source with knowledge of the situation also tells TMZ Justin and Hailey got engaged Saturday night. Bieber, 24, and Baldwin, 21, briefly dated in 2016 and rekindled their romance about a month ago.

The theory that they are scavenging alcohol on beaches came after firefighters had to rescue a drunk gull which had fallen off a roof in Lyme Regis, Dorset.

Several birds who reportedly stunk of alcohol have been brought into multiple RSPCA centers for treatment and were released after a few days of care.

Although some birds have succumbed to the alcohol poisoning the RSPCA say numerous birds have been successfully rescued and released back into the wild following their ordeal.

Anyone with concerns for the welfare of a bird or animal can contact the RSPCA's 24-hour helpline on 0300 1234 999 for advice or assistance.
