Temperatures to feel as hot as 104 degrees in Massachusetts Tuesday

'Extreme, dangerous' heat to continue this week, meteorologists say Hot, sticky weather will cling to Maine this week
Anna Jefferson | 04 July, 2018, 17:45

The National Weather Service said Tuesday some spots in the state will see their fifth day of temperatures around or above 90 degrees. As of 1 p.m. the temperature at Logan Airport in Boston is 95 degrees and factoring in the oppressive humidity with a dew point of 72 degrees, the "real feel" temperature is a whopping 103 degrees!

Truly, no break in the heat or humidity through the holiday week with our best storm chances on Tuesday, Thursday and Friday (40 to 50% chances). A few of the storms that develop tomorrow could be heavy and strong at times.

The weather service says Thursday looks to be the first sign of the heat wave truly weakening, and by Friday and Saturday a cold front should finally arrive in our region. Most of the showers will arrive late on Wednesday and may have something to do with evening fireworks displays.

Philadelphia, which hit 92 degrees on Sunday with a heat index of 105, similarly sounded the alarm to its residents and visitors about the unsafe heat.

"Hot and humid weather like what we're experiencing this weekend can cause heat illness, and even death", said Health Commissioner Dr. Mary T. Bassett. The high hits 91, with head indices in the mid 90s.

Another hot one today with limited shower and storm chances around.

Too hot: After yesterday, you might have thought it couldn't get any worse. High: Low-90s. Mid 80s shore.

Our heat wave is officially 5 days now. "But the air mass is a little warmer today, pumping temperatures a little higher today than yesterday". During the daytime hours it's expected to be partly sunny with a high approaching 90 and calm winds out of the southeast.

Use a buddy system when working in excessive heat.

Clouds Saturday blocked just enough sunshine to prevent any record highs from being broken, however, Michael Priante, a metetrologist at WeatherWorks in Hackettstown said a record could be broken in the Lehigh Valley by the end of the day Sunday.
