Chris will still have tropical storm strength after entering the cooler water, but it will begin to change to a much different structure. The report is available in Spanish at: Centro de Operaciones de Emergencias.

The hurricane was moving toward the northeast at 10 miles per hour (17 kph), the NHC said. Chris is expected to continue generating heavy ocean swells along the U.S. East Coast and bring heavy rainfall to Newfoundland, Canada.

The second hurricane of the 2018 season has quickly strengthened into a Category 2 storm that is moving away from the US but making a bee-line toward Canada and, eventually, Iceland.

Chris is moving to the northeast at 10 miles per hour.

Hurricane-force winds extend up to 25 miles from the center of the storm, and tropical-storm-force winds extend up to 90 miles out, the NHC said.

It looks like the UK's heatwave is set to come to an end as the remnants of a powerful hurricane swirling along the USA east coast is due to hit Britain. "There really is no big option for the track of this storm, it's going to continue to take on that northeasterly direction, picking up speed and weakening".

As of Thursday evening the Canadian Hurricane Centre maintained a tropical cyclone information statement for eastern Newfoundland including, Bonavista, Burin and Avalon peninsulas. These swells could cause life-threatening surf and rip current conditions.

As of 8 a.m. this morning, Chris was located approximately 585 kilometres southwest of Cape Race with maximum sustained winds of 110 km/h and moving at 59 km/h.

No coastal watches or warnings are in effect.
