Iran Braces for ‘Mother of All Wars’ with US

It could have been an impulsive reaction to reports from Tehran quoting Rouhani as giving the U.S.an oft-repeated reminder that conflict with Iran would be "the mother of all wars".

On Monday, Iran dismissed an angry warning from President Donald Trump that it risked dire consequences "the like of which few throughout history have suffered before" if it made threats against the United States.

Earlier this month, Rouhani-unnerved by his failure to win a commitment from the European powers that they would not bow to USA pressure and renege on their obligations under the Iran nuclear accord-said that were Iran denied the right to export its oil it might close the Straits of Hormuz. But CNN disagrees, arguing that "even by Trump's standards, the language was harsh, and surprised many Middle East watchers".

Trump called the comments "DEMENTED WORDS OF VIOLENCE & DEATH. This is really unsafe". Trump recently withdrew the US from an Iranian nuclear deal forged by his predecessor, President Barack Obama, along with the leaders of the United Kingdom, France, and other major worldwide powers.

It was reminiscent of Mr. Trump's "fire and fury" warning to North Korean leader Kim Jong-un last summer. "The level of corruption and wealth among Iranian leaders shows that Iran is run by something that resembles the mafia more than a government".

Israeli prime minister Benjamin Netanyahu praised the President's "strong stance" after years in which the Iranian "regime was pampered by world powers". To date it has refused to provide sanction-waivers to its ostensible European and Asian allies and instead demonstratively threatened them with exclusion from the USA market and financial system if they do not comply with the unilateral American embargo on Iran.

Now the BBC and Sky Sports both report that Everton are in advanced talks with Watford over a potential move for the Brazilian. His skill, pace, eye for goal and unrelenting work ethic would be key components of the way that Silva wants his side to play.

Bernie Sanders's remarks come less than 24 hours after the US President threatened Iran with a late-night, all capital-letter tweet. Some commentators fear that war may be just around the corner.

Iran's state news agency said the tweet was typical of Trump's "bullying words".

As the New York Times noted,"last month the United States said it would impose sanctions on all exporters of Iranian oil". "It would mean opening Pandora's box", he told German magazine Der Spiegel shortly before the Iran deal was nullified.

"America should know that peace with Iran is the mother of all peace, and war with Iran is the mother of all wars", Rouhani said.

While the United States has a substantial military presence in the region, a full-scale military confrontation with Iran would be a major, costly endeavor that could eclipse the US war in Iraq.
