I didn't criticise Theresa May to The Sun

After a tumultuous couple years for the "special relationship" between the USA and her closet ally, tested repeatedly by disagreements, the frustration at the street level with Mr. Trump's policies, style and manner manifested Thursday in some demonstrations.

US President accuses the United Kingdom media of "fake news" following an interview in which he criticised Prime Minister Theresa May's Brexit plans.

As he began a four-day visit to Britain on Thursday, Trump, a major supporter of Brexit, told The Sun that he had advised May to go about leaving the European Union in a different way but was ignored. "I actually told Theresa May how to do it but she didn't agree, she didn't listen to me", Trump said.

May is facing a rebellion by Brexit hardliners over the proposals, including the resignation of Johnson and Brexit minister David Davis this week, although moderates and big businesses have been supportive.

Seated alongside the Prime Minister, Mr Trump appeared ready to adopt a more conciliatory tone as he sat down for talks at Chequers in Buckinghamshire.

Such public criticism by a sitting USA president of a British prime minister while on a visit to the United Kingdom publicly undermines May in her party, her country and overseas.

But then Trump made the ridiculous claim himself, again.

Speaking in the grounds of the PM's official country residence, Mr Trump said he had given her a suggestion about how to come out on top in the talks but "she found it maybe too brutal".

He added: "Today we are talking trade, we are talking military".

Trump's remarks to the Sun were the most biting any US president has ever made on visit to Britain.

"No, if they do that, I would say that would probably end a major trade relationship with the United States".

A statement on its website reads, "We will make it clear to the British government that it's not OK to normalize Trump's agenda and the hate and fear it has sparked".

Sam Gyimah, the junior minister for universities, science and research, took to Twitter on Friday to ask the visiting statesman: "Where are your manners, Mr President?"

"When we leave the European Union we will begin to chart a new course for Britain in the world and our global alliances will be stronger than ever", May said ahead of Trump's visit.

Trump also blasted Londoners in general, for protesting his arrival in England, and said that he "used to love London as a city", but added "when they make you feel unwelcome, why would I stay there?"

Trump's schedule, however, will largely keep him out of central London. I think she is a nice person. But for many British diplomats, Brexit marks the collapse of a 70-year strategy of trying to balance European integration with a USA alliance based on blood, trade and intelligence sharing.

Trump has frequently angered British politicians.

A mass demonstration called "Together Against Trump" by left-wing campaign groups is organised for Friday, with a giant balloon of Trump depicted as a crying baby in a nappy set to fly next to the British parliament.

Trump said that the "special relationship" between the two countries is "a bond that is like no other". She's just an incredible woman.

"It was a very, very productive two days, and we arrived here last night". He is scheduled to have tea with Queen Elizabeth at Windsor Castle where her grandson Prince Harry married US actress Meghan Markle in May.
