‘Do Not Eat This Cereal’: CDC Links Honey Smacks To Salmonella ‘Do Not Eat This Cereal’: CDC Links Honey Smacks To Salmonella

A total of 100 people have been sickened as a result; 30 people have been hospitalized.

At the time, there were a number of salmonella cases in New England, including five in MA and one in New Hampshire.

People infected with salmonella bacteria can show symptoms after just 12 hours, including diarrhea, fever and abdominal cramps. While most recover within a week, some illnesses can last longer and be more severe.

Salmonella can also travel from the intestines to the bloodstream and ultimately the rest of the body.

The CDC announced Thursday that customers should avoid Honey Smacks, tweeting, "Do not eat this cereal". These cases can turn deadly if not promptly treated with antibiotics. No deaths have been reported in this outbreak.

Trump slams May's Brexit deal hours after dinner to honour him
Mrs May will host Mr Trump and his wife Melania at a lavish dinner at Blenheim Palace this evening. May and Trump are scheduled to hold talks and a joint news conference on Friday.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) urged consumers: "Do not eat this cereal".

"Do not eat any Kellogg's Honey Smacks cereal, regardless of package size or best-by date", it said.

In June, Kellogg said it was investigating the third-party manufacturer that produces Honey Smacks after it was contacted by the FDA and CDC about the illness. About 450 people die in the United States each year from salmonella.

In addition, the agency has advised the public to report any sales of the cereal to the FDA Consumer Complaint Coordinator in their area. The company voluntarily recalled the cereal last month, but the FDA says it's apparently still on grocery shelves and in kitchen cupboards, reports CNN.
