Jun 10, 2018-North Korean leader Kim Jong Un arrived in Singapore on Sunday for an unprecedented summit with US President Donald Trump, reported AFP. "If diplomacy does not move in the right direction.those measures will increase".
So just what will a successful meeting between Trump and Kim actually look like? He said that those talks "in fact are moving quite rapidly and will come to a logical conclusion more quickly than anticipated".
Trump and Kim are to have the first ever US-North Korea summit in Singapore on Tuesday, with the American leader hoping his counterpart will scrap his nuclear weapons program in return for security guarantees.
Pompeo had earlier tweeted a photograph at breakfast with ambassador Kim, stating the U.S. position was unchanged: "We remain committed to the complete, verifiable, irreversible denuclearization of the Korean Peninsula".
Earlier, in March, the North Korean leader had made his first trip overseas to China and in April he became the first North Korean leader to step foot in South Korea where he met South Korean President Moon Jae-in at Panmunjom on their mutual border.
In the lead up to the summit, North Korea rejected any unilateral nuclear disarmament, and KCNA's reference to denuclearization of the peninsula has historically meant that Pyongyang wants the United States to remove its "nuclear umbrella" protecting South Korea and Japan.
As Trump and Lee sat down for a working lunch at the Istana house, Trump sounded optimistic, telling Lee, "we've got a very interesting meeting in particular tomorrow, and I think things can work out very nicely".
Donald Trump and Kim Jong Un were making last-minute preparations Monday on the eve of their historic summit, as officials scrambled to narrow yawning differences over Pyongyang's nuclear arsenal.
Trump initially touted the potential for a grand bargain with North Korea to rid itself of a nuclear missile programme that has advanced rapidly to threaten the United States, insisting he would swiftly achieve what previous U.S. administrations have failed to do.
He had his first formal meeting of the summit with the prime minister of Singapore, Lee Hsien Loong.

"I am on my way to Singapore where we have a chance to achieve a truly wonderful result for North Korea and the World", Trump wrote in a pair of tweets.
He added that the expenditure forms part of the S$20 million that Singapore is spending on the summit in all.
"The fact that we have been chosen as the site of the meeting... says something about Singapore's relations with the parties - with America, with North Korea - (and) also our standing in the global community", said Lee.
But last month, Trump abruptly cancelled the Singapore summit, citing the "tremendous anger and open hostility" by Pyongyang.
Authorities have beefed up security around the hotels where Trump and Kim (Saint Regis) will be staying in central Singapore.
Chairman Kim thanked Singapore's organisation of the summit as if it was "their own family affair".
"I'm not ready to give an authorization for the use of military force to this president or any other one until I understand that the path for peace is not attainable", he said.
The other area was Sentosa Island, site of the Capella Hotel which will be the venue for the June 12 summit.
Pompeo also said Tuesday's meeting presents a test of Kim's willingness to agree to deal his nuclear weapons away for "protections" from the United States.

French President Emmanuel Macron said "international co-operation can not be dictated by fits of anger and throwaway remarks". Kudlow added that Trump was "not going to let a Canadian prime minister push him around" ahead of the North Korea summit.

Obviously, one reason for Kim accepting the invitation is a chance at easing the dire economic situation in North Korea. Trump is to meet Singapore Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong on Monday while Kim has no official agenda.
According to National Security Council spokesman Robert Palladino, President Trump intends to meet one on one with Kim. Whether such a deal can be done, Trump declared Saturday, is something he will know nearly from the moment they meet.
