Trump says he won't sign 'moderate' GOP immigration bill

President Donald Trump ignited eleventh-hour confusion Friday over Republican efforts to push immigration through the House next week, saying he won't sign a "moderate" package.

During an impromptu appearance on Fox News' "Fox & Friends" Friday morning, Trump shot down the Republican plan that took weeks of work and almost overhauled the House floor schedule with a discharge petition.

But McHenry cautioned that House Republicans won't "take on" immigration unless they have Trump's backing.

Rep. Bob Goodlatte, R-Va. sponsors one of the bills, which has drawn fire from immigrant rights activists, HuffPost reported.

The compromise follows weeks of fighting with conservatives who have resisted any system that would create a special citizenship route for DREAMers. "We believe because of the court ruling, this will require legislative change", Ryan said. "The president needs to read the bill", Coffman said, adding that the president was just "responding to the word "moderate".

Higher prices are also good for oil producers in Texas and North Dakota, where the shale oil boom creates lots of drilling jobs. US bank Morgan Stanley said OPEC and its partners had "largely achieved their stated objective of rebalancing the oil market".

But only the moderate bill had the slightest chance of making it to Trump's desk. "I hate it. I hate to see separation of parents and children". Ryan put down a rebellion in his own caucus and headed off a clean DACA authorization that nearly succeeded in coming to the floor via a discharge petition, promising to allow both groups to craft their own bills for floor votes.

Each immigration bill being considered next week is aimed at satisfying a different ideological wing of the Republican Party, and it is unclear whether either has the votes to pass the House.

The president also said he did not like separating children from their asylum-seeking migrant parents at the border - a policy he enacted but has blamed on Democrats. The president, his aides and congressional Republicans have given differing rationales for it: Sessions and Chief of Staff John Kelly said children were being taken away as a deterrent while Republicans in Congress recently said it's based on a 1997 court settlement regarding the treatment of immigrant children in federal custody.

Both the conservative and compromise GOP bills contain stringent security provisions and money to build Trump's proposed wall with Mexico.
