Rescuers tried for five days to keep it alive but couldn't save it.

Songkhla: A whale died in southern Thai waters after it swallowed over 80 plastic bags.

The whale died Friday after a five-day fight, the country's Department of Marine and Coastal Resources said, becoming the latest high-profile incident of marine life forced to live in oceans littered with human rubbish. 'We use a lot of plastic'.

It vomited up five bags during rescue attempts which proved fruitless, as the animal died a short time later.

Experts believe the pilot whale, which would normally feed predominantly on squid, thought the floating plastic bags were food.

His post went on to encourage Thais to replace plastic bag usage with reusable bags, writing, "In the meantime, I can only ask, my friend, 'please, don't forget the fabric bag from home'".

UK plans to give Northern Ireland joint UK, EU status
The British cabinet is divided on how to solve the Border issue, with some, led by Mrs May, favouring some form of customs partnership with the EU.

Veterinarians removed over 80 plastic bags from the whale's stomach during an autopsy, according to Jatuporn Burutpat, director-general of Thailand's Department of Marine and Coastal Resources.

The Thai government last month said it was considering a levy on disposable plastic shopping bags.

Indonesia, China, the Philippines, Thailand and Vietnam dump more plastic into the oceans than the rest of the world combined, according to Ocean Conservancy, a Washington-based non-profit. Kenya past year enacted the world's toughest law against plastic bags.

Almost 300 marine animals including pilot whales, sea turtles and dolphins, are killed each year in Thailand from accidental plastic consumption.

Greenpeace's Tara urged the government to quickly enact regulations.
