US President Donald Trump and Russian President Vladimir Putin will meet in Finland's capital on 16 July, according to statements issued by the White House and the Kremlin.

At the Hamburg meeting Trump's then-secretary of state, Rex Tillerson, said the two leaders had agreed to "move forward" on the question of election interference, while his Russian counterpart, Sergei Lavrov, reported more bluntly that Trump had accepted Putin's denial of any involvement. According to Russian Federation, the two will discuss the "current state of U.S. -Russia ties" and "relevant worldwide issues".

"I have no idea, but I'm going to stop second-guessing President Trump's Twitter foreign policy and Twitter diplomacy", the Florida Republican said.

Trump is due to attend the July 11 and 12 North Atlantic Treaty Organisation summit in Brussels before heading to Britain to meet with Prime Minister Theresa May and Queen Elizabeth II on July 13. "He said he absolutely did not meddle in our election". "You can only ask so many times", Trump told reporters in November, shortly after speaking with Putin on the sidelines of a leaders summit in Vietnam.

Trump first met Putin at the Group of 20 summit in Germany nearly a year ago, and they again spoke in person at the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation meeting in Vietnam in November.

A special counsel in the United States has indicted Russian firms and individuals as part of a probe into possible collusion between Russia and Trump's 2016 presidential campaign.

Pompeo said on Capitol Hill Wednesday he was "confident that when the President meets with Vladimir Putin, he will make clear that meddling in our elections is completely unacceptable". On Wednesday Trump said they would discuss Syria and Ukraine among other issues.

But Bolton eschewed concerns that the summit would produce little of substance: "I think the fact of the summit itself is a deliverable and I don't exclude that they will reach concrete agreements", said Bolton.

The Russian leader had two brief meetings with Trump on the sidelines of worldwide summits previous year, but plans for a full-fledged summit have been thrown back amid the USA investigations into alleged collusion between Trump's campaign and Russia.

TASS reports that the meeting is likely to last several hours and that there will be a protocol event, a one-on-one meeting between Trump and Putin and a joint news conference.
