Ontario PC Leader Doug Ford speaks at a campaign event in Sault Ste.

Kathleen Wynne, who has been premier since 2013 and whose Liberal Party has governed for 15 years, told reporters she will not be premier after the June 7 election.

"The more Liberal MPPs that we send to Queen's Park on June 7th, the less likely it becomes that either Doug Ford or the NDP will be able to form a majority government".

"If your concern is that you'd be electing me or electing a Liberal government, that's not going to happen", she said. "The reason is the strenght of the government's response and the kinds of things that Premier Wynne has done".

The Liberals have been trailing the NDP and PCs in the polls, and Wynne admits her party can not win the June 7th vote.

Wynne began her day today in Richmond Hill, Ont., where she is trying to help Liberal Reza Moridi get re-elected, and was also campaigning in Scarborough North, Toronto-St.

Wynne said she will fight for the tariffs to be repealed and, until then, to make sure Ontario's steel industry has the necessary support to remain competitive.

On Friday, Wynne stuck to her defensive pitch - that she would still make the best leader - saying people need to be "very careful" in deciding who would be best at building the province.

The latest polls show Ford tracking toward a majority government, although the Ontario NDP under Andrea Horwath have a slightly larger share of the popular vote and momentum.

North Korea replaces three top military leaders, Yonhap news agency reports
Kim and Assad have been accused of co-operating on nuclear weapons by the United Nations, an allegation North Korea denies. North Korea's three most senior military officials have been replaced, a USA official told Reuters .

But she says that change can not be a majority government for Conservative Doug Ford or the NDP's Andrea Horwath.

"It is a logical next step", she said.

Wynne said whichever way the vote goes, people should hope for a minority win to keep the government "from acting too extreme - one way or the other".

After disappointing prformances in Ottawa in recent provincial elections, Ontario PC leader Doug Ford says he is confident his slate of "all-star candidates" will turn the region blue.

"It became clear - and she conceded [that] - that she can not win the election".

"Kathleen Wynne has abandoned the fight against Doug Ford cuts". "They're hoping they can salvage (the party).it's about saying to people: don't abandon us".

"So I think electorally, it's strategic, but as a leader of a party, I actually think it's really selfless".

When it came to accessing talent, the Liberals have promised $132 million over the next three years to creating more postsecondary STEM programming, while the NDP promises to create 27,000 new co-ops and internships and redistribute $57 million from the Jobs and Prosperity Fund for opportunities in trade. A Liberal source told The Canadian Press about a dozen ridings in which the party thinks they have a reasonable shot at winning, but Wynne's own riding was not among them.
