In bombshell, Trump says U.S. backs out of G7 communique, criticises Trudeau

Donald Trump has left the G7 network of global cooperation in disarray after he pulled the USA out of a previously agreed summit communique, blaming the Canadian prime minister Justin Trudeau whom he derided as "dishonest and weak".

US President Donald Trump has left following his brief trip to Canada saying his relationship with the G7 countries is a 10 out of 10, and reports of rifts between the powerful countries are simply "fake news".

Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau says he will impose retaliatory measures to answer President Trump's tariffs on steel and aluminum: "Canadians: we're polite, we're reasonable, but we also will not be pushed around".

In an "extraordinary" exchange between the leaders on Friday, Trump repeated a list of grievances about U.S. trade, mainly with the European Union and Canada, a French presidency official told reporters.

Trump's utopian idea was greeted with skepticism, but he appeared to take it seriously, arguing that the United States had been taken for a ride by the rest of the world.

Russian Federation was expelled from what was then called the G8 in 2014 because of its annexation of Crimea from Ukraine.

During the summit, Trump had changed the photo on his Twitter page to the "family photo" taken with other G7 leaders. Trump said he was discussing two types of sunset provisions in which any of the countries could leave the deal.

The G7 also committed to working to ensure they complement the multilateral trade agreements and to modernize the WTO to make it more fair as soon as possible, the document said. "Our Tariffs are in response to his of 270% on dairy!" the United States president tweeted.

The G7 summit came amid rising tensions between the U.S. and other member nations - Canada, Britain, France, Germany, Italy, and Japan - over Trump's recent steel and aluminum tariffs.

Trump added: "Very dishonest & weak".

He blamed the summit's host: Prime Minister Justin Trudeau.

He left the summit early to travel to Singapore for a landmark meeting with the North Korean leader Kim Jong-un to try to persuade him to give up the country's nuclear weapons.

Mr Trump had earlier denied that the summit had been contentious, contradicting what one G7 official described as a bitter harangue between the US President and his counterparts over tariffs.

Why isn't the European Union and Canada informing the public that for years they have used massive Trade Tariffs and non-monetary Trade Barriers against the U.S. Totally unfair to our farmers, workers & companies.

Trump is painting a highly inaccurate tariff picture - wrongly suggesting everyone else has high tariffs while U.S. has none.

Trump is issuing a stern warning to foreign countries not to retaliate against USA tariffs on the imports of steel and aluminum.

Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau on Saturday rejected a United States demand for a sunset clause in NAFTA but said he was prepared to compromise on the issue, which is holding up talks to update the 1990s-era pact.
