Four more deaths have been linked to the national food poisoning outbreak blamed on tainted lettuce, bringing the total to five.

In the United States nearly 200 people in 35 States were poisoned salad lettuce, five people were killed as a result of poisoning. Canada's Public Health Agency has also identified several people infected with E. coli.

The number of illnesses and deaths linked to a multistate E. coli outbreak has risen. "So any immediate risk is gone".

The recent E. coli outbreak is the most severe to hit the US since 2006, when three people died in an outbreak linked to uncooked spinach.

According to the official blog of the U.S. Food and Drug Administration, 11 fields in the Brawley, Calif. area are shown to be original sources of the romaine lettuce. People who get sick from toxin-producing E. coli come down with symptoms about three to four days after swallowing the germ, with many suffering bloody diarrhea, severe stomach cramps and vomiting.

Does that mean that we can expect outcomes that can satisfy both sides? "And frankly, I said, 'Take your time". You know he can't be trusted. "I don't think we should pass up such an opportunity simply because of China".

So, although 25 more people got sick after the last CDC update on the outbreak, issued May 16, no new illnesses are expected. While almost 90 percent of those who fell ill reported eating romaine lettuce in the week before they were sickened, some told the CDC that they did not personally eat the lettuce but were in close contact with somebody who did. Of 187 people with information available, 89 (48 percent) have been hospitalized, including 26 people who developed hemolytic uremic syndrome, a type of kidney failure.

Officials are saying that it is "unlikely" that any romaine lettuce from Yuma is still in stores or restaurants.

"Traceback involves working backwards from the point of consumption or purchase of the product through the supply chain", Ostroff and Gottlieb wrote. "It's a labor-intensive task". "If the explanation was as simple as a single farm, or a single processor or distributor, we would have already figured that out".

The CDC estimates that foodborne illnesses affect 47.8 million people in the USA every year, putting 127,000 into the hospital and killing more than 3,000.
