President Trump concluded his visit to the Group of Seven summit on Saturdaywith warnings to US allies, saying if they don't eliminate barriers to trade, they could lose access to the USA economy.

Trudeau said he told Trump directly that Canadians "particularly did not take lightly the fact that it's based on a national security reason" and held firm to the government's threat of retaliation.

The G-7 meeting is taking place Friday and Saturday in Quebec, Canada, where leaders from the United States, the UK, Canada, Germany, France, Italy and Japan are meeting to discuss issues including world trade, climate change and clean energy, economic growth and world peace.

Trump, who argues his tariffs are meant to protect USA industry and workers from unfair global competition, told reporters he had suggested to the other G7 leaders that all trade barriers, including tariffs and subsidies, be eliminated.

The president went into the meeting under intense pressure from foreign leaders after he slapped high tariffs on steel and aluminum imports, citing US national security needs.

President Donald Trump on Saturday said he wanted to see the elimination of trade barriers between the United States and its closest allies amid tensions over the Trump administration's move to impose steep tariffs on steel and aluminum imports from the EU, Canada and Mexico.

The EU said it will impose the "rebalancing" tariffs on about $3.3 billion (2.8 billion euros) worth of USA steel, bourbon, agricultural products including sweet corn, orange juice, cranberries and certain clothing made of cotton.

Although, he said if he senses Kim is not serious, he won't prolong talks.

UK Prime Minister Theresa May has said she wants the European Union to act with restraint and proportion in retaliating to the USA tariffs.

As for Trumps proposal to eliminate all tariffs, Trump said it was unclear how other countries would respond.

"We're either going to have NAFTA in a better negotiated form or we're going to have two deals", the USA president said. We have a world to run.

After rumours there would be no joint closing statement because of the divisions, President Trump told reporters he believed there would be one after all.

Shortly before his arrival at the two-day summit, Trump injected additional controversy by suggesting that the G-7 offer a seat at the table to Russian Federation, which was ousted from the group after it annexed Crimea in 2014.

US President Donald Trump has left following his brief trip to Canada saying his relationship with the G7 countries is a 10 out of 10, and reports of rifts between the powerful countries are simply "fake news".

"They do so much more business with us than we do with them. the numbers are so astronomically against them ... we win that war a thousand times out of a thousand".
