A small asteroid has crashed in South Africa

Sandra Phillips | 07 June, 2018, 18:58

Also, a camera in South Africa has apparently captured on video the explosion of the small asteroid as it was penetrating our planet's atmosphere.

Asteroid trackers at NASA and elsewhere determined the rock to be about 2 metres wide. As said by the Jet Propulsion Laboratory of NASA, the asteroid named 2018 LA burned above the surface of the Earth at a distance of several miles.

Arizona's Catalina Sky Survey spotted a considerably small Asteroid last week.

Detecting asteroids as small as 2018 LA is very hard.

The Article from Asteroid disintegrated up above in the sky.

Video posted on YouTube, from a farm just across the border in South Africa, showed a fireball swiftly descending and getting bigger, and then a blinding flash in the sky.

Scientists discovered the asteroid, called 2018 LA, early Saturday.

Singapore's Capella Hotel Set for Historic US-North Korea Summit
Sentosa is home to palm-fringed beaches, casinos, tourist sites and some of the best golf courses in Asia. Mr Trump called off the summit in May, accusing North Korea of "tremendous anger and open hostility".

The astroboffins only managed to get a couple of readings on the asteroid's trajectory, and thought it would strike somewhere in southern Africa, the Indian Ocean, or possibly New Guinea.

'It is also only the second time that the high probability of an impact was predicted well ahead of the event itself'.

But the warning, observation and predicted track mark the third time in history that an asteroid's impact trajectory has been predicted before the event, and just the second time the impact location was predicted, according to NASA officials.

"This was a much smaller object than we are tasked to detect and warn about", NASA's planetary defence officer Lindley Johnson said in a statement.

Nasa's Near Earth Object Centre said that Asteroid 2018 LA was travelling at 27, 738 miles per hour and was about the size of a small vehicle. Churning through the data at top speed, astronomers at the Minor Planet Center and NASA's Center for Near-Earth Object Studies (CNEOS) confirmed that the space rock was on a collision course for our planet.

And While 2018 LA was detected soon before it came at our setting, there are various organizations looking for potentially hazardous asteroids (PHAs) which may seriously affect life. However, the asteroid of 2008 was detected nineteen hours before it struck the sky over Sudan. All three times the detection was done by the same Catalina Sky Survey telescope, and even in the same observer's shift Richard Kowalski.

The two previous events, over the Sudan in 2008 on October 7, 2008, and over the Atlantic Ocean on January 1, 2014, were also first noticed by the Catalina Sky Survey.
