United Kingdom drug users can access cocaine in less time than it takes to have a pizza delivered, according to a new survey of global drug habits.

Professor Alex Stevens, a criminologist at the University of Kent, said the findings highlight England and Scotland as having some of the highest levels in Europe.

Nearly 40% of respondents in the Netherlands indicated that it would take less than 30 minutes to get cocaine delivered, compared to over 80% revealing they would get it at least on the same day.

"This report shows again that the government's ambition to create a "society free of drugs" is completely unrealistic".

Around 37.4 percent of Scots said that cocaine would arrive in 30 minutes, whereas only 19.8 percent thought that their pizza would come as quickly.

The Netherlands had a rate of 39.6%, 38.5% in Denmark and 34.15% in Czech Republic.

Of 1,000 cocaine users in England, and more than 500 in Scotland, more than a third said they could get the drug delivered within half an hour.

"Big online retailers know that reducing the time between purchase and delivery is good for business".

It found Brazil had the quickest availability of the drug, with 45% of respondents saying delivery takes less than half an hour, while just 13% of those surveyed in Australia said the same.

The figures in the USA show at least 23% getting the drug in half an hour or less and over 54% would get the same day delivery.

"For cocaine consumption, respondents from Scotland consumed over double the global average per session of 0.5g at 1.2g, ranking first in the world".

"Using with alcohol may mean that people are using cocaine to allow them to keep drinking alcohol and so it is alcohol that is driving this behaviour".

The ease of access and higher purity are likely to lead to more use and harm and indicate an abundance of supply, the report states.

"With many cities covered with CCTV cameras, traditional street dealing is becoming less attractive to many suppliers and consumers", the report says.

Troublingly, the survey revealed Australian users of LSD and MDMA end up seeking medical treatment more often than other users in other countries, which suggests our drugs may be less pure or more risky than those available in other countries.

It said the rise in drug market places on hard-to-reach parts of the internet - the so-called Darknet - and encrypted social media platforms had made ordering illicit drugs relatively safe.
