Around 17 people have been rescued while 23 people are still missing.

Fishermen raced to the scene to help, and officials deployed police and a team from the National Disasters Relief Force.

A boat carrying around 40 people was capsized in Godavari River in Andhra Pradesh on Wednesday. Earlier reports had said that at least 10 people swam to safety. East Godavari district collector Karthikeya Misra has rushed to the spot.
