"To ensure full transparency and integrity, Kaspersky Lab is arranging for this activity to be supervised by an independent third party, also based in Switzerland", it added.

One of the easy attacks to make against Kaspersky Labs has been to focus on its Russian heritage and then raise questions of trust and regardless of whether it has any validity it has made an impact on brand association.

The creation of the Zurich Transparency Center is part of a larger plan announced by the company in October 2017, called the Global Transparency Initiative.

By the end of 2019, Kaspersky Lab hopes to have moved the infrastructure used for U.S. customer data storage and processing to Zurich.

It said this information is shared voluntarily with the Kaspersky Security Network (KSN), which is a cloud platform that processes cyber threat data.

Kaspersky also intends to relocate the tools used to assemble software to Zurich, and by the end of 2018, the company says that both Kaspersky Lab products and threat detection rule databases will begin to be assembled and signed off in the country. Products other than anti-virus software from Kaspersky are not covered under the decision. Through this initiative, the company promised to allow third parties to review the its source code and conduct independent reviews of its internal processes, as well as creating a trio of brick-and-mortar "transparency centers" to facilitate these reviews.

The move from Russian Federation comes months after the USA's Department of Homeland Security (DHS) issued an order that banned Kaspersky Lab products from being used by federal agencies. This supervision appears to extend beyond the move and into Kaspersky's future.

The move follows controversy in the United States past year when the federal government removed Kaspersky from its list of approved vendors, weeks after senior USA intelligence agency and law enforcement officials expressed concerns about the safety of its software.

"Transparency is one such need, and that is why we've chose to redesign our infrastructure and move our data processing facilities to Switzerland".

Note to EditorsOn June 5, Kaspersky Lab will be hosting a live online summit, bringing together senior representatives from the cybersecurity industry to discuss how to maintain trust and collaboration across the industry and address the growing challenge of Balkanization. Over 400 million users are protected by Kaspersky Lab technologies and we help 270,000 corporate clients protect what matters most to them.
