During its I/O developers conference this year, Google revealed its voice-based digital assistant using artificial intelligence "Duplex" that has the capability to speak in as close to a human voice as possible, male or female. The human sounding digital assistant astonished everyone, while it raised some questions on the ethics as well.

An array of comments at Twitter contended there was an ethical breach to not letting people know they were conversing with software. Duplex will work in closed domains where the structure of the conversations is more or less, pre-defined, like making a hotel reservation.

With its latest advancement in AI, Google has bridged the gap between illusion and reality even further in its latest I/O conference on Tuesday.

Google I/O 2018 keynote was filled with some pretty cool announcements related to Assistant and AI, and one of the moments that really amazed the audience and people watching from home was that Assistant could now make phone calls on your behalf. Moreover, it is created to talk with pauses, understands the language and responds accordingly.

"We understand and value the discussion around Google Duplex - as we've said from the beginning, transparency in the technology is important", said Google. Furthermore, it is programmed to comprehend where to respond quickly and where to give a pause. "Businesses that rely on appointment bookings supported by Duplex, and are not yet powered by online systems, can benefit from Duplex by allowing customers to book through the Google Assistant without having to change any day-to-day practices or train employees", the post read.

The Telephone records of Duplex reserving a hair appointment and restaurant reservation did not include disclosures.

With this new talking capacity, Google Assistant to pass the Turing test, suggested by British computer scientist Alan Turing in 1950, a pc's natural speech answers would need to seem much like a person's. Many have expressed concern that the company was misleading those on the other end of the conversation into thinking they were dealing with another human, not a machine.

"The technology is directed towards completing specific tasks, such as scheduling certain types of appointments", Pichai said.
