The BlackBerry tweeted today May 11 that the BlackBerry KEY2 would launch on June 7, 2018.

TENAA also posted the potential specifications of the smartphone. Codenamed Athena, it's rumored to be called BlackBerry KEY2. The unveiling will take place in NY at 10am on the aforementioned date.

The company's official Twitter handle posted the invite for the launch of the device, which will be held in NY on June 7. But occasionally we get a phone that's not afraid to play by its own rules, and that's very much what we saw previous year with the BlackBerry KEYone. The tweeted also confirmed the name of the phone like the BlackBerry KEY2, with the numeral 2 rather than "two" spelled out, as the logo was for the KEYone. Based on its listing there, it is said to feature a dual-camera setup at the back, while retaining the physical keyboard. The TCL Communication is gearing up to announce the successor to last year's BlackBerry KEYone.

Meanwhile, several other leaks regarding the BlackBerry Key2 have suggested that the smartphone will have a plastic build while the keys on the QWERTY keyboard present on the handset will also come with a matte finish. The phone will reportedly be powered by the Snapdragon 660 mobile platform; the sequel will have 6GB of RAM, twice the amount that came with the first generation KEYone.
