Kiwi surfer Paige Hareb was one of the first back in the water at the Margaret River WSL event in Western Australia after a man was attacked by a shark nearby.
The attack at Cobblestones beach was reported shortly before 8am, with an ambulance crew from Margaret River and the rescue helicopter sent to the scene.
The 41-year-old was bitten on his right leg and his board left with visible teeth marks.
Channel Nine reporter Michael Stamp said the man did not realise the beach was closed.
"That could lead to sharks coming close in to shore along this stretch of coast", a statement said.
It comes as the first attack victim, aged in his 30s, was rushed to Royal Perth Hospital for emergency surgery.
The hospital described the victim's condition as stable.
