SC to hear plea against Guru Nanak film - after its release

The Supreme Court has refused to hear an urgent plea from the Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak's Committee (SGPC), who is seeking an order of modification to the movie "Nanak Shah Fakir".
A bench of Chief Justice Dipak Misra, Justice AM Khanwilkar and Justice DY Chandrachud told petitioner Satinder Singh Gulati that the Central Board of Film Certification had cleared the film for release and it can't be objected to without taking recourse to lawful means. However, the plea of urgent hearing of the case by the Sikh bodies was rejected by the respective courts, but listed the matter for the next week.
According to LiveLaw, the SGPC argued that "the Sikh body is a statutory body and passed a resolution in 2003 that no one was allowed to depict the role of any Sikh Guru or their family members".

The film was initially cleared by CBFC on March 30, 2015, and slated for release in April 2015, but after widespread protests, it was banned in Punjab for two months.
