However, this isn't the first time Samsung has been accused of patent infringement though.

Samsung Pay was debuted in India in March 2017 and works with the company's patented Magnetic Secure Transmission (MST) technology as well as the Near Field Communication (NFC).

Because Samsung is now leading the FIDO Alliance, an organization that aims to develop standardized authentication technologies, including biometrics, across industries, it's believed that PACid could purse other cases against FIDO members Amazon, Google and LG. All three relate to data encryption. The suit was filed on April 6 and alleges that Samsung used the three patents to help it develop its fingerprint, face and iris scanners. The suit concerns three patents, believed to be related to the biometric security features of Samsung's recent Galaxy devices; specifically, the Galaxy S6, Galaxy S7 and Galaxy S8 (and the Edge/Plus variants thereof). The company has also allegedly infringed the patents with its Samsung PASS and KNOX systems. The company is also known as a patent troll, which is something addressed on the company's web pages.

Austin, Texas-based PACid Technologies has filed a lawsuit in the United States District Court for the Eastern District of Texas.

"Unfortunately, there are large companies that don't like competition from "upstarts". However, the suit did not mention a specific damages amount sought by the plaintiff but with the calibre of phones mentioned, the company may be seeking a huge sum in damages. While the lawsuit itself is legitimate, it should be noted that PACid is relatively infamous for being a patent troll.
