The Raleigh event was organized by groups including Americans for America, Three Percent Republic and the National Constitutional Coalition of Patriotic Americans.

Second Amendment supporters and gun control supporters took to the streets on Saturday in several cities around the country. The rally in Indianapolis was part of a nationwide effort to have rallies in all 50 US capitals.

Unlike some recent demonstrations to restrict the availability of guns, Saturday's rally was about gun rights and protecting the Second Amendment.

Since it took place on state property, guns were not allowed at the pro-gun rally.

"We've already seen compromise and yet these things continue to happen", said Holly Sullivan, events coordinator for CCDL. Many held sign demanding gun free zones be eliminated.

This rally comes on the heels of last month's March for our Lives, which addressed gun violence in schools and pushed for a solution.

"We just do not want innocent people or citizens to be punished for those criminals", Stout said.

"Gun safety. Having it with her all the time".

Attendees said it's about protection for the unexpected, like a road rage incident for Shoemaker.

The request contended that local or state laws that violate the Second Amendment don't work in fighting crime, but that they do stop honest people from being able to protect themselves.

"We wanted to do something positive for the Second Amendment", said Boyd.

"I'm exhausted of my generation being portrayed.as advocates for taking away our rights", Groce said.
