Impostor nabbed from AIIMS Delhi Fake Doctor in Delhi AIIMS, police arrest the accused

The 36-year-old PhD student from the Microbiology department had allegedly attempted suicide at his residence in Gautam Nagar by overdosing on drugs on March 25 and had accused his supervisor of mental harassment, abuse and delay in his fellowship.

Khurram has studied till Class X and has no criminal record.

With over 2,000 resident doctors in AIIMS, it is hard to know each and every person individually and Khurram used this to his advantage and avoided being caught.

Khurram reportedly managed to attend events like marathons and strikes meant exclusively for AIIMS doctors.

After the arrest by the police, the accused managed to shock the Delhi police with his "knowledge" of medicines, names of the departments, heads and doctors at the AIIMS. One of the reasons he said he wanted he help one of his family members get better treatment through preferred doctors.

According to DNA, Khurram was even carrying a booklet of AIIMS, which can only be in possession of doctors at the institution. He also said that he pretended as a doctor because he was fond of spending time with doctors.

Andhra Pradesh to observe bandh over special status today
Reacting to the shutdown call, Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu said bandhs were not welcome as they hamper development. He appealed to the people of Andhra Pradesh to give the TDP all 25 MP seats to play a crucial role at the Centre.

Khurram was arrested on Saturday after he participated in a marathon organized by the doctors, where a few senior doctors questioned him about his identity. When someone asked him about his identity, he couldn't give satisfactory replies.

HT quoted the Resident Doctors' Association (RDA) chief Harjit Singh saying that he recently became suspicious of Khurram's activities after which he chose to keep a watch on him. We found out that he made different claims to different doctors. To some, he would claim that he was a junior resident doctor while to junior resident doctors, he would introduce himself as an undergraduate medical student. He had even made his way to the WhatsApp group.

Singh said since AIIMS has around 2,000 resident doctors, it is hard to know each and every person individually and Khurram took the fact as an advantage and avoided being caught.

Report mentioned that he is in police custody and has been charged with sections 419 and 468 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC). He has posted photographs of him with politician as well.

Apparently, it seems like it has become easy for people to impersonate as doctors especially at AIIMS since this is not the first fraudulent case that has come up from the apex hospital.
