Eurovision-winning drag queen Conchita Wurst has revealed she is HIV positive after a former friend attempted to blackmail the singer over her condition.

Austrian singer Conchita Wurst has revealed that she is living with HIV, after an ex-partner threatened to make the information public.

"I have been HIV-positive for many years", the 29-year-old pop singer, whose real name is Tom Neuwirth, told her almost 300,000 followers, adding that she had been forced into revealing her status by a former partner. As a result, she is below the detection limit of the virus and is unable to pass it on. However, medical advances mean that with the right treatment sufferers those infected now have near normal life expectancy.

"I hope to show courage and take another step against the stigmatization of people with H.I.V.", he added.

"I did not want to go public with it for a couple of reasons so far, I just want to mention two of them here: The most important one was my family, which has known and supported me unconditionally since day one".

"To my fans: the information about my HIV status may be new to you - but my status is not!"

Mariah Carey thanks fans for support
Mariah Carey's rep has responded after the singer's longtime manager Stella Stolper reportedly accused her of sexual harassment. Carey signed to Jay-Z's Roc Nation in November 2017 - it was around this time that she was said to have let go of Stopler.

From the statement on Instagram, " Mr. Neuwirth said he had been undergoing therapy for H.I.V.to get a lot of years, also his virus levels were imperceptible. "Thank you for your support".

Wurst, who received the singing contest in 2014 with the tune Rise Like A Phoenix, wrote that she had acquired medical remedy and that she was feeling wholesome and robust.

Wurst has been supported by HIV groups, who hit out at the attempts to expose the star's HIV status.

"Threatening to disclose somebody's HIV standing, underneath any circumstances, is exclusively incorrect". And we all know this is not one thing which exclusively occurs to these within the public eye.

Wurst revealed that regular treatment had suppressed the virus.

"We applaud Conchita for dealing with this with such dignity and together with in her publish that individuals dwelling with HIV who're on efficient remedy, like her, can not move the virus on". This is because HIV medication works by shrinking the amount of virus in the blood to undetectable levels, which both protects the immune system from damage and prevents HIV from being passed on to anyone else.
