USA urged to create 'right' conditions for talks with N Korea

Kim Jong-un USA urged to create 'right' conditions for talks with N Korea

"The New York Times" reported this week that a confidential 200-page report by a United Nations panel claimed Pyongyang shipped components for making chemical weapons to Syria, including acid-resistant tiles, valves and thermometers.

Vice President Mike Pence had no meetings with any North Korean delegation during his South Korea Olympics visit, but had such a meeting occurred, he said his message would have been that "North Korea must once and for all abandon its nuclear weapons program and ballistic missile ambitions".

"If talks are possible only under the right conditions just as Trump said, the U.S. should create those conditions", Choson Sinbo said in its article.

"The Trump administration should keep in mind that unless it makes the decision to give up its reckless hostile policy, it won't be given a dialogue opportunity", the newspaper said.

The paper also criticized the USA for creating the impression the North was "begging for talks" and giving into pressure and sanctions imposed on the regime.

North Korea dismissed the report, although intelligence experts estimate the North has weaponised stockpiles of as many as 25 chemical agents, including sarin and VX nerve gas.

Northeast getting slammed with heavy rain, snow from nor'easter
For a few hours it will snow heavily but not for everyone-best chance will be the farther from the coastline you are. The high for Friday was expected to reach the mid-70s and the about the same Saturday.

But the North's state-run media hit back by accusing the US of being the first user of chemical weapons and employing biochemical munitions to kill around 50,000 people during the 1950-53 Korean War.

Newspaper Choson Sinbo claimed that Pyongyang had never begged for talks with Washington D.C., the Yonhap news agency reported.

North Korea sees the joint military drills as a rehearsal for invasion and has continuously demanded they be halted.

United States military newspaper Stars and Stripes says the new policy marks a shift from a prior strategy that focused almost exclusively on rogue nations such as North Korea and Iran.
